Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Practice of Law

As the use of generative artificial intelligence (“AI”) grows across various industries, CSD Attorneys at Law P.S. is monitoring and evaluating how the use of AI may benefit the legal services that CSD provides to our clients. In the legal industry, the technology is nascent and evolving rapidly. While the technology has shown some promise in evaluating the massive document production that arises in complex commercial litigation, significant concerns exist regarding the security of privileged communications and confidential information accessed by AI software. Additionally, in drafting and evaluating legal arguments, AI often generates incorrect legal citations and “hallucinates” fake judicial decisions.

With those concerns in mind, CSD does not utilize AI to provide legal advice to its clients. Given the likelihood of the unauthorized disclosure of privileged and confidential information, as well as the tendency of AI to make up the law rather than provide accurate legal advice, CSD believes that the risk of utilizing AI far outweighs any cost-benefit to our clients.

CSD will continue to follow updates surrounding the development of AI in the legal field and assess how AI may serve our clients as the technology improves. CSD’s highest priority will always remain to provide high-quality and cost-effective representation to our clients.
